Legal Advocacy

Legal advocacy is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week wherever needed. Advocates are here to support survivors throughout the legal process. We support survivors regardless of their decision to report or their participation with law enforcement. Legal advocacy services are available in both English and Spanish.

NWCASA Legal Advocates:
  • Provide you with information about your legal rights and options, including information about relevant Illinois laws
  • Provide support at each court case (Please note: advocates can go to court in place of you unless you are subpoenaed, or can go with you)
  • Help you communicate with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office
  • Help you file for Crime Victims Compensation
  • Assist you with Safe Home’s Act and Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act
  • Assist you in filing a petition for a protective order (Civil No Contact Order, Order of Protection, Stalking No Contact Order)
  • Provide you with referrals and support for other services, legal options, and attorneys who can assist with Title IX complaints, visitation and custody disputes, immigration, and workplace rights
  • Please note: Legal Advocates are not here to provide legal advice, but are here to provide information, referrals, and support throughout the legal process.
